Philip Ferdenand Misley left Slovenia in 1913 with $25 in his pocket. He was the son of Filip Mislej and Johana Kopachin of Lozice. He arrived at Ellis Island on 1 September 1913 at began a journey by train to Oregon City, Oregon to work at the local paper mill. On December 22, 1923 he married Elsie Margery Nash. They had nine children: Loris, Norma, Robert (Bob), Jenny, Elmer, Philip, Charles (Chuck), Gloria, and Nancy. Countless other aunts, uncles, cousins, grandchildren, and great grandchildren are scattered throughout the Pacific Northwest and across the country. Even more relatives are still located in Slovenia.
